High School Programs


Welcome to the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club High School Teen Program page! We offer a wide variety of programs for youth entering 9th-12th grade in the Fall of 2010!

New Teen Center!


We will move into our new PEAK home this July! Where there is a dedicated floor for our High School members to relax, chill, do homework and kick it! The Teen Center will have ping pong, foos ball, video game systems, pool tables, a patio, flat screen TV’s, a dedicated Learning Center & Tech Room! Other spaces in the PEAK include a Sound Studio, Learning Kitchen, and Gymnasium with a dedicated high school court and more!

2010 Summer High School Programs!

Chuting the Deshutes River Rafting Trip!


Mercer Island Boys & Girls ClubGet ready to hit the rapids with this unique week long experience! We will raft down the Deshutes River in Organ with Orion River Rafting Company. We will spend 3 days and 2 nights on the river and under the stars! The other 2 nights we will relax at Haystack Reservoir camp ground before heading back home.  Check out Orion River Rafting Company online at www.orionexp.com for additional information.

Dates: Monday July 26th through Friday July 30th
Grade: Entering 9th through 12th Grade Fall of 2010
Cost: $450 (Fee includes all meals, camping, staffing and river rafting excursion)

State University Road Trip!


Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club TeenJoin us as we take the road trip of a life time! We will spend 6 days and 5 nights on the road. We will stop at Washington State University, Eastern Washington University and Central Washington University campuses for tours. We will also complete 10 hours of community service andno road trip is complete without some fun, so we will stop at Silverwood theme park for the day and cool off at Chelan Slidewaters along the way! (Provided by Service Travel And Recreation Squad)

Dates: Monday August 16th through Saturday August 20th.
Grade: Entering 10th through 12th Grade Fall of 2010

Counselor In Training Program


Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club TeenAre you ready for some fun while learning essential life skills? Then this is the program for you! Be prepared to have a blast as you play, teach and become a role model to younger members. As a C.I.T. you will plan programs, lead an array of daily activities and participate in weekly field trips. At the end of summer we will celebrate by going to Wild Waves!

Mandatory C.I.T. Training: June 18th from 3:00-6:00

Dates: June 21st - August 27th
(C.I.T.’s must do at least 2 week in a row)
Cost: $75 per week
(fee includes field trip expenses and C.I.T. t-shirts)
Hours: 9:00 am to 4:00pm

Jr. Staff Program:


Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club TeenJunior Staff is a program that assists Club members ages 13 to 18 explore a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work. Young people prepare for future roles as human services professionals by participating in career development activities, discovering the importance of community service, building customer service skills and completing a Club apprenticeship.

Keystone


Keystone is the Club's most dynamic teen program which focuses on community service throughout the year. Keystone Clubs are small-group leadership and service clubs for males and females ages 14-18. Members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities in six areas:

  • Service to Club and community
  • Leadership
  • Development
  • Education and career exploration
  • Unity, free enterprise
  • Social recreation

Open Mic Night


Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club TeenHere’s your time to shine! Come jam, speak poetry, make jokes, and share your talents each month! Professional performers will teach youth how to deal with stage fright, teach tricks for performing, and much more! Also enjoy movies, foosball, and pool!




Late Night Program:


Teen late nights will take place monthly in the Fall from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the Club.  At Late Night we have open gym, pickup basketball games, Pool, Foos Ball, Movies, Video Game Tournaments and more!  Rock out with Guitar Hero: World Hero or throw a strike with Wii Bowling – all while enjoying pizza, beverages, and your friends! 

Youth of the Quarter:


Each quarter a youth between the ages of 14-18 is selected for outstanding character, leadership, club service, community service, academic performance, and contributions to family and spiritual life. Each quarter a youth is recognized at the Space Needle with their friends and family, where they make a speech about “What does the Boys & Girls Club mean to me,” along with 13 other youth from other Boys & Girls Clubs of King County. After the youth has been awarded they are eligible to apply for Youth of the Year.

Youth of the Year


Youth of the Year Boys & Girls Clubs of King CountyYouth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life. Competition begins with each Club selecting a Youth of the Year who receives a certificate and medallion then enters state competition. State winners receive a plaque and $1,000 scholarship then enter the regional competition. Each of the five regional winners receives a $10,000 scholarship and enters the national competition held in Washington, DC. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 scholarship, totaling $26,000 in scholarships, and is installed by the President of the United States.

YouthForce Boys & Girls Club of King CountyDream. Experience. Achieve.  Work hard, win big with real working experience in the career of your dreams.  Paid after-school and summer internships allow you to work with your mentors and open the door to your future. YouthForce internship programs develop low-income and minority teens into self-directed learners, able to realize their personal and professional goals. YouthForce programs accomplish these goals through our unique ladder of internship programs.

  • Our entry-level TeamWork Internship Program provides job experiences at Qwest Field.  The team of interns provides fan support for the Seattle Seahawks & Sounders FC seasons by combining volunteerism, mentoring, career exploration and college prep services through a unique partnership with the University of Washington Dream Project. 
  • Our leadership program provides opportunities to work in non-profits among the TeamWork Program, in the YouthForce offices, and at Boys & Girl Clubs of King County.

Our Career Internship Program places qualified teens in year-round internships at several influential companies in the Greater Seattle Area.  These internships reward youth achievement, build professional networks and launch confident careers.  Employers benefit from motivated interns who build staff moral, enhance diversity and increase productivity.
